Description

Jewish Cemetery (beth olam) is located at Nitrianska street and rises to a gentle slope where are the city cemetery with Calvary located too. Jewish cemetery area is bordered by a high wall of stone and bricks dates from the 19th century. Cemetery itself can be divided into two parts. Rare Baroque Jewish tombstones from the 18th century and important tombs are located at the old cemetery. In this part we cab find the mass graves of plague epidemics, but also the tombs of prominent personalities such as Sarah Ley van Geldernovej, grandmother of writer Heinrich Heine. Another important place is the grave of Hlohovec rabbi and scholar Mordechai Deutsch from 1773. Architecturally remarkable and valuable tomb is the tomb of Markus Dukes (grave of grandmother Rachel in Bethlehem) from 19th century. Graves and tombstones from 20th century can be found in the new part of cemetery.\nhttp://regionhlohovec.sk/clanok-7-456/Zidovsky_cintorin_(beth_olam)_-_Hlohovec.html?lang=en
